I am proud to announce I made it out of that bathroom in one piece, though I was a tad bit late. The child was not happy about that, but the offer of unlimited selfies made everything better. My sweet, not-so-little friend was so gorgeous, just like her mama. It felt weird to see her so grown, and I wanted to grab her and shield her from all the bad things so she could stay sweet and innocent for the rest of her life. Gosh. If I’m this protective over someone else’s child, what in the world would I do with my own? I like to keep that thought far into the future.

Anaya and Baako were weird the entire night. They barely spoke to each other and never smiled. Correct me if I’m wrong, but their only child just became a teenager. Is that not something to smile about, even with ongoing personal drama? They couldn’t fake it for one day? Let me not judge. I haven’t been where they are, but I’m an expert at painful relationships. She hasn’t told me the details of what’s happening, but I’ll find out soon enough. Until then, I’ll keep smiling and nodding.
