I arose early to make breakfast, just as I used to when my family was whole. The rain continued and brought with it chilly, damp air on the first day of autumn. ‘Twas the perfect day for pancakes! Alessia surprised me, strutting into the kitchen dressed and ready to conquer the day. I was so proud. It’s crazy how many small, silly things fill us with pride as parents. I just love watching them grow and coming into their own. I often wonder what they’ll be like when they’re older and how this unfortunate situation will affect them.
“Good morning, hun! Wanna see how high I can flip this pancake?”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Mommy.”
I chuckled at her seriousness. “Oh? Why not?”
“If you do it too high, it’ll stick to the ceiling! And what if you miss? Then we can’t have pancakes anymore.”
Children’s minds are like funhouses. You never know what they’ll come up with next.
“You’re very concerned about the pancakes, huh?”
“I love pancakes!”
Crazy eyes aside, this pancake situation is adorable.
“Alright, then. If it’ll make you more comfortable, I won’t flip them. But I’m telling you… I can go pretty high. Are you sure you don’t want to see?”
“Nope! I’m good.”
Silly girl.
“Do me a favor and go see what your brother is up to. We’ll be ready to eat in 5 minutes.”
“Ok, Mommy,” she yelled as she ran through the door.
I swear, Alessia only has one speed! I don’t remember having that much energy when I was her age. We definitely need to get her involved in sports.
