2.234 Embarrassing

The rain came, so we escaped to the cafe area to wait it out. We had dinner plans for later, so we didn’t order anything. Dancing on skates reminded me I am not as young or thin as I used to be. My knees. My back. Everything screamed at me, and I felt like I’d been swallowed by a cowplant. My kids thought that was funny. Hmph. When they’re my age, they’ll understand.

As if being in physical pain on top of emotional pain was not enough, Dwayne showed up out of nowhere! Why does the Watcher continue to punish me?? Have I not learned enough lessons? From where I sat, there was no place I could hide. Luca had gone to check on the rain, so I couldn’t strike up a conversation with him, and Alessia was right in front of Dwayne. I pretended not to see him and stared at the painting next to me.

He smiled at Alessia and commented on how big she had gotten. THEN he came to the table and cleaned it! Why must he torture me? Are we not still friends?

“What are you doing here?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

He smirked at me for a few seconds as if to determine how witty he wanted his response to be. “I volunteer here.”

“Mommy? Are you ok?” Alessia asked.

I hate that I troubled my child. She picked up on all my negative vibes. I appreciated her concern, but I don’t want to burden them with my problems. I know this was just a bad weekend for me, but I really need to get a better grip on my emotions.
