After work, I made dinner and asked the kids to join me. We usually dined together anyway, but in case they had other plans tonight, I wanted to make sure they knew I desired their presence. It wasn’t much, but I wanted to celebrate this new chapter of my life with them. Luca knew about my career plans but Alessia didn’t, so I wanted to make an official announcement that I was now self-employed, doing my candle business full time.
Alessia took the news very well; not that I expected she wouldn’t. She said it was “really cool.” Luca looked thrilled and expressed the same sentiments from the other night. My decision inspired him. Hopefully Alessia will catch some inspiration, too. I want them both to take life by the horns and make it work for them, not the other way around.
I told them about my day and asked about theirs’. Alessia had a better day than yesterday and was in a much better mood. Luca was cool and collected, as always. I really hope that’s just his demeanor and not a cover up for how he really feels. It’s not that I feel he’s hiding anything from me, but many times, men hide their feelings to protect and make us feel safe. That isn’t his job, but he’s always been so protective of me. I just hope he doesn’t feel like he has to be the strong one as the oldest and only male in the house.
Luca suggested we play video games after dinner. We didn’t have a gaming console at the other house, so his interest surprised me. He found some car racing game all three of us could play. Alessia was disinterested at first—as per usual. But Luca and I had a good competition going—as per usual—and made a big ruckus. So, eventually, she put down her phone and joined in on the fun. Today was a great day.
