2.312 Let It Snow

When we got back to the rental, everyone commented about how pretty the slopes were lit up by colored lights. No sooner than the words came out of our mouths, music in the distance grabbed my ear. I walked a few steps toward the street to find where it came from and saw lights off in the distance. Something was happening, and I beckoned my family to follow me as I walked toward the lights.

The closer we got, I realized it was yet another festival! Looks like we came on the right weekend. They decorated the area in front of the ski lift with festive lights. Tall statues made to look like snow sculptures illuminated by colorful lights towered above us. Of course, the food vendors were there, too. Every now and then, fireworks would go off. Whatever they celebrated, I wanted in!

Turns out they celebrated the snow! How appropriate seeing as how it’s always around. Plus, it’s the biggest reason people even travel to this world.

Alessia grabbed my hand and dragged me with her.

“Let’s build a snow pal,” she shouted.

Later, I saw Luca and Ali having a snowball fight. Luca was so mad because Ali kept tagging him. He even got him in the face a few times! I wanted to call foul because I can’t have my boy’s cute face messed up. But Ali was laughing so hard he could barely breathe. That put a smile on my face. Besides, let that be a lesson for Luca. Never underestimate your elders!

Less and I finished our snow pal. She went for a punk style. It was pretty rad, heh.

“Let’s make snow angels!”

I love her excitement right now. She’s like a little kid again, and it’s giving me life! I’m soooooo glad I got the idea for this trip. It’s just what we needed.

I chose a spot away from her and our snow punk rocker to make my snow angel. It just happened to be right in center of the action, but I didn’t care. All snow is fair game!

“Ummm… You do realize you’re in the line of fire, right?” Ali asked.

“Ha! My son would NEVER throw snow at me!”

He snorted. “Oooookaaaaaay!”

“Let’s switch sides,” Luca said.

“See? He loves me,” I said.

But their switching sides meant I was now in Ali’s line of fire, so I got out of there quickly. I’m sure he’d love to hurl a few balls at me even in jest.

Alessia sat at a table, sipping hot tea from the vending machine. She’s already super gorgeous, but when she smiles… I love to see it!

“This place is really cool, Mom. Thanks for taking us here.”

“Of course, babe. I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.”

“Can we come back?”

“Sure! We’ll visit again whenever you want.”

“Sweet!”

She ran off to the vending machine to purchase something else.

While she was gone, I checked my messages since I hadn’t looked at my phone all day. Dwayne had sent me an encouraging message this morning. He probably assumed we’d be on the slopes again. Isn’t it crazy that I had convinced myself for so many years that I could never be in a relationship with him and made up all kinds of excuses for why we would never work, but now I’m sending him heart emojis and telling him how much I miss him. Life is funny that way.
