I almost died today! Actually, I’m pretty sure I was dead for about three seconds. Devonte sent me a weird, jumbled text saying he liked me and wanted to hang out more and go on a date!!! OH MY WATCHER!! I’m so glad I didn’t completely give up on him. Maybe he just needed a moment to figure out what he wanted. Seeing as how I’d barely spoken to him since that day, he must have realized I wasn’t interested in casual hookups and decided to get serious because he has feelings for me. Yes, I know one day does not equate to an exclusive relationship, but that’s the first step.
I happily accepted the invitation, and he suggested we meet at Llama Inferno at 10 p.m. that night. A nightclub would not have been my venue of choice for a first date, but he still gets points for knowing what I’d enjoy.
I had an unbreakable smile for most of the night as we danced and danced and danced. He’s a good dancer too. Not as good as me, but he kept up! I saw him over there Spin, Snap, Swayin’. I swayed right along with him.
Soon we needed a break. We also needed some private time to talk, so we went upstairs where it was quiet. He picked out a table, and I went to the bar to get drinks. When I returned, he wasn’t there. I found him at another table, smiling and laughing it up with Billie.
I thought maybe they knew each other, but Billie looked very surprised when she saw me join them. We chatted for a moment before she left. Devonte asked how we knew each other, and I explained our moms are best friends, and she used to babysit me from time to time.
We sipped our drinks, mostly in silence. It’s sad to think that after being around him for half my life, I didn’t know him well or if we had anything in common. He didn’t know me either. I don’t enjoy comparing them, but this part would have been so much more fun and interesting with Laurant. The silence got awkward, so I asked if he knew Billie.
“Who?”
I chuckled. Didn’t he hear me call her name? “My friend who was just here.”
“Oh…Nah,” he stammered. He said he thought she was someone else and went to say hi. Most people would have apologized and gone back to their table, so why did he stay? And what in the world did they talk about?
Eventually the silence was beyond weird, so we went back downstairs for one more dance. Well, I danced. He went to the bathroom. Diamond was there showing off her 2nd trimester belly. I felt so weird about her being pregnant. On one hand I’m excited for her. But on the other hand, her baby daddy is also my friend who I have very complicated feelings for. All the time I’ve spent with him made me choose a side: his side. I know I should be on her side because despite how bad I feel for him, he had total control of the situation and could have prevented this. He could have used protection, and he should have been brave enough to tell her he wasn’t interested from the beginning. I know all of this, but I still hate how much turmoil he’s in. I hope they can figure this out for both their sakes.
