3.180 High notes

Since neither of us are interested in the TV show, I suggest we go to her room since all the kid stuff is in there. I ask what she wants to do, and she opts for story time. She frequently asks us to read to her, and I love that. Sophia and I aren’t big readers, so I love she is cultivating the appetite early. Who knows? Maybe we’ll have a little bookworm on our hands. I select a book from the shelf and sit down to read, but instead of joining me to hear the story, the dollhouse stole her attention. There’s no use in me continuing to read this story since she’s already in an imaginative world, so I join her. The problem is, I know nothing about how to play with dolls. Alessia never had a dollhouse, so this is a totally new experience for me. Luckily, Desi gave me instructions.

“You go to space! I make bake-fast.”

Space is exactly where I plan to go tonight after she’s asleep, but let me stop and get into character, heh.

“What’s for breakfast?”

“Swee-tayto!”

I love how she still remembers that. See? I told her I was going to change her life with that.

We play for a few more minutes, but then she tosses her doll into the house and stomps away. I guess playtime is over. Actually, between this and the random giggles downstairs, I think it’s nap time.

Later that night, we go out for dinner. Dining with a toddler is a lot more difficult than I imagined it would be. I mean, you show up with a kid, and folks act like they’ve never seen one before, falling over themselves, scrambling to figure out how to accommodate us. It wasn’t too bad, though. No one knew where the high chairs were, but once they found them, everything was mostly normal…except for other patrons stopping at our table to say how cute Desi is. Like, I know this city is hot for singles, but are there seriously no children around? The restaurant doesn’t even have a kids’ menu, and I was afraid they wouldn’t have any toddler friendly food. A few items from the main menu worked, though, so I order a bowl of peas. I was so proud when she picks up the spoon. Her toddler life is speeding by so fast already, I hadn’t noticed how much her fine motor skills have improved. I spoke too soon though because even though she used the spoon, she still played in her food and made a mess. (sigh)

A song I knew played over the speakers, so I sang it to Sophia. Then I sang a verse for Desiree. Instead of enjoying my serenade, they were giving each other the same look, and I did not appreciate them silently clowning me, heh.

Later, after we put Desi to bed, I wait for Sophia to come out of the bathroom to get the adult party started. She came out in this hot little see-through number I’d never seen before, talking about how she’s gonna be the one singing tonight.

Awwwwwww YEAH!!
