Breanna took on her mother, and the competitive energy between them was as thick as Oasis Springs heat. They kept glancing in each other’s direction, trying to get their strategy together. Alessia took her time, got her stance right, and aimed, and Bre did the same. They released their balls, slow and steady, but those two evil pins taunted Less again. Bre knocked down about half her pins and did a little dance. Good thing the kids don’t understand how scoring works, heh.

Arvin chose me as his challenger, so we stepped up to the lane. My ball went straight into the gutter. I didn’t even wait for the graphic to come up and tell me how lame I was and walked away while Arvin rejoiced over his victory.

“I told you they’re going to kill us,” I said to Alessia.
“But you said it’s about having fun,” she replied.
“Shut up.”

The kids got distracted again, so I asked Sophia if she wanted to go. She declined, so I took another turn.

A strike! Finally! Maybe things will turn around for me after all.

The kids were still distracted, so Less tried again and did even worse. She even shouted forbidden words, which Sophia and I both found hilarious.
I was a bit hungry, and it was clear the kids were losing interest, so I suggested Lex take his turn and then we’d head upstairs for cake. He grabbed the ball, and Less watched and cheered him on; I always knew he was her favorite. He did pretty well, too, knocking down all but three pins. If these guys keep practicing, they could be really good. Maybe one day we’ll have a Murillo family bowling team.
