3.244 Everybody do your share

Beach Cleanup Day just fell on the official first day of summer, and I thought that was so appropriate. Our plan was to get an early start and cleanup Mua Pel’am as fast as we could so we could head to Ohan’ali Town for their Family Fun Day events on the beach. I got up as soon as my eyes opened to start on breakfast. Alessia came down shortly after me, looking eager to begin her beach bum agenda—as if she didn’t do enough of that yesterday. Hmph. It’s for the best, though. Who knows what she would have told my daughter about woohoo given the way she lived her life. Hopefully Breanna will choose another path.

“Morning, Daddy,” Desiree said, appearing out of nowhere, though I should have guessed she’d be up. “Want some help?”

How nice. I knew if I kept asking, one day I’d get her to cook with me.

“So, like, why do we have to clean up the beach?” she asked. “Aren’t there people that do that?”

“Sure,” I said. “But there aren’t enough of them.”

I go on and on about how the islands are sacred and need to be cared for before I realized what she did. She thinks she’s slick, offering to help, getting me distracted, never lifting a finger…again! That cute little stinker. That’s fine. When she’s on her own, she’ll be begging me for cooking lessons.

The boys came down together, and Lex looked like he had lost his best friend or something. I wanted to ask what was the matter, but we didn’t have time to get into it if we wanted to enjoy the last day of our vacation. We scarfed down our breakfast and got to work. Me and Sophia took care of the waterborne trash while the kids roamed the island. Some sims are so inconsiderate and lazy. It wasn’t like there weren’t trash bins all over the island. Why do they think it’s appropriate to litter in the ocean?

With our strong team of six, we got the job done in no time and headed for the beach with plenty of daylight to spare. I wanted to hop in the water and swim, but I made a point of grabbing a lounge chair and relaxed. Me and idling don’t get along, so I often neglect rest, which isn’t good. We had plenty of time for multiple activities, so I promised myself I’d lie around at least long enough to get a sweet tan before moving on to more active activities. I looked over to see what everyone else got into, and what I saw warmed my heart. Sophia and the kids were still combing the beach for trash. I was so proud of them and felt like I should join, but the sun wasn’t done with me, heh.

As I lay there, browning and watching everyone else enjoy the water, I reflected on the last two days and was so glad Alessia and her family could join us. I may not have done everything right, but I appreciated the time to bond with my nephews and for Sophia to relax. If we keep this up, surely our families will have an unbreakable bond that will carry through the next generation.
