Rest did not help, and the pain stayed with me like a shadow, so I lingered in bed for a while, scrolling Social Bunny, looking at everyone’s wonderful lives as I writhed in pain. I eventually got up, only to end up on the couch for the rest of the day. Despite my lack of activity, I went to bed early, completely exhausted. I woke up feeling no better, and that scared me. I’d never been sick a day in my life. Not even a common cold. Did I touch something toxic when we picked up trash? Whatever I did, my ailment demanded attention. I had to confess to Sophia. And I needed a doctor. As if on cue, she appeared and sat next to me.
“How are you?” she asked sweetly. “And don’t lie to me this time.”
Busted. I knew I couldn’t hide from her, but I was just so ashamed. And I didn’t want her to worry about invaders in our home, but I was desperate for answers and relief.

“Okay.” I took a very slow, deep breath as I prepared to tell her the craziest story of my life. “So…the other night…I had a strange feeling…like someone was in the house.”
Just as I expected, she had that look I was trying to prevent, and all my avoidance had been for nothing.
“I got up and checked all the rooms. Everything was fine, so I went outside, and…,” The words got stuck in my throat, and the pressure from tears building up in my eyes threatened to break me, but I refused to be beaten. “I went outside, and I saw these weird lights. I got close, and then … Something-they took me, Sophia!”

She gasped.
“They, like…they?” she asked, her finger pointing toward the sky.
I couldn’t speak without yelling or crying, so I and just nodded. She embraced me, saying how sorry she was and telling me I was safe now. Her calmness surprised me, yet I expected it. She was always cool under pressure, and I always conveniently forgot that, calling myself protecting her feelings or whatever. Though I appreciated the comfort, it did little to allay my anxiety. They set me up! I don’t know how they did it, but they called to me and made me go outside. Like a siren! If that was really how it worked, it could happen again to any of us!
“So, you think these pains are related to that?” she asked.
“I really don’t know. I mean, they did start the next morning, but maybe it was something in the trash?”

“Hmmm…” Her eyes narrowed while her brain did whatever crazy calculations women did. “Maybe. Either way, we need to get you to a doctor.”
I had no intentions of protesting, but she whipped out that phone so fast, I wouldn’t have had time to contest, anyway. First, she called her job because she was due in two hours.
“Hey, it’s Sophia. I’m not coming in today … Yes, I know it’s last minute … I honestly don’t care … My husband is sick, and I am taking him to the hospital … So fire me!”

She hung up and went upstairs to get dressed. What a woman! I didn’t want to alarm Desiree, so we waited until after she left to go to the hospital. While waiting, I did yoga, hoping it would calm my nerves. Many stories existed about healthy sims becoming ill unexpectedly and dying from serious conditions like triple threat. I really hoped nothing like that would happen to me. I had so much life ahead of me and things I looked forward to. Please, Watcher. Please don’t let my time be up.
