3.269 Together again

Logan hiccups a lot. I heard it all day and during the night when he’d wake up. Come to think of it, Desiree did it too. Was that just a baby thing, or was it some gastrointestinal condition I gave them? Too bad I can’t call Mama and ask her if I did it too. That sound kept me company until I felt rested enough to get up. He’d finally gone to sleep when I looked in on him, so I ventured downstairs to eat. I was still in a lot of pain, but lying in bed wouldn’t help me get better; I needed to get moving again.

Alessia called, asking what our Harvestfest plans were and if she and the kids should come by. We’d had such an eventful week, I totally forgot it was today. Sophia and Desi must have forgotten too because they lumbered around the house unphased by its importance. I relayed our memory lapse to Less and invited them over for a casual family day instead. They could meet Logan and see what we did with the house. No sooner than I hung up, she and the kids were standing in the kitchen. Did she call from the porch? I didn’t even have time to put on clothes. This was the second time Less had caught me in the onesie; they’re lucky they’re family, ha! I greeted them and ran upstairs to change.

Diving head first back into my normal routine was tempting, but I knew I needed to take it slow. I didn’t feel right about inviting my family over and not feeding them. I especially didn’t feel good about asking Sophia to take care of it since I hadn’t warned her about their arrival, not that they gave me the chance. So, instead of spending hours on my feet making a turkey and a bunch of sides, I made a big breakfast for anyone who wanted to eat. I recruited my nephews to help and told them they should learn to cook because ladies love men who know their way around the kitchen. Lex was a bit suspicious, but Arvin ate it up. He made a bit of a mess, but eventually we got everything plated and looking delicious.

At some point, Less disappeared, and I assumed she had taken a turn about the house and met Logan, who was still sleeping upstairs. She was up there for a while, however, so I wondered if she had taken a nap or something. Later on, when she came back—oohing and ahhing about how adorable he was—she said she had forgotten how peaceful the world is while babies slept and got some reading done. With all the hooligans in her house, I suppose she would be keen on seizing every moment of peace.

Logan started screaming for me moments later, so I told them I’d feed him and then bring him down. As I watched him drink, it occurred to me I’d mostly only seen him within the darkness of our bedroom because I noticed something cool about his eyes. He did an adorable thing when he was really hungry. He’d get so excited when he saw the bottle coming his way, he’d flail his little arms around, and his eyes opened as wide as he could get them. That’s when I noticed they weren’t as black as I thought they were. They’re actually dark purple. Only the whites of his eyes are black. I enjoyed knowing I could catch him looking at things now.

After he had his fill, I brought him down to meet the kids, but they were already gone. Sophia said Less wanted to get home before dark and they’d come back another time. I had hoped they could stay longer because our beach vacation felt light years away, and I missed being around the nuggets. They’re all growing so fast, and I want to know what’s going on in their lives before they scatter across the world.
