Melany wanted to explain. Norah had no idea what it was like to be in public as a celebrity. People would stare and whisper anyway, and wearing a hair net for a shirt made it worse. She wanted to tell her she had a pristine reputation, and while it was annoying for people to celebrate her everywhere she went, she enjoyed being known for something good. If she were going to be bad, it would be on her terms. Maybe if Norah knew these things she’d stop pushing her, but if Melany opened her mouth, all the forbidden words would fly out.
