While Mommy got high on new baby scent, I got on with my chores. Just as I was putting out the trash, Laurant was knocking on the door! I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t pretend like I didn’t see him or even run back to the house with my bright orange blouse. So I took a deep breath and greeted him.
He smiled warmly, but the closer I got to him, his expression soured into confusion. “I’m sorry… Diamond told me you had a baby.”
Confused, I began to say “I did,” but then I looked at my own belly, realizing the source of his confusion. “Oh! Ha ha! I had him. And now I’m having another!”
He laughed and shook his head at me. “You and your babies. I always knew you’d try for a little soccer team.”
“That’s too many!”
Laughing with him was kinda nice. Despite how I feel about him now, we had some really good times, and I’ll never forget them.
But we very well couldn’t stand in the rain and talk, and he probably came to see Luca, so I took him upstairs. Mommy was still on cloud 13, and I hated to interrupt her, but she’ll be here for another few days. Maybe I can convince her to stay since I’m pregnant again. Would it be wrong to pretend to be the poor unfortunate new mom who struggles with a toddler while being pregnant? I bet I could play that role really well, tee hee hee.
She and Laurant caught up for a few minutes before leaving us. He didn’t get close to Luca, not that I expected him to want to hold him or anything. I don’t know too many dudes who go crazy over babies. Regardless, his lack of excitement about my child could only mean one thing. He came to talk.
