Although I was overjoyed to be engaged, I couldn’t help complaining about the timing of things. The temperature had dropped significantly, and the wind felt like 100 paper cuts. A blizzard must be on the way. After a while we were the only idiots still outside enjoying the festival. I loved how romantic the proposal was, but he could have done that back at home where it was warm. But when I looked at Winston, he only smiled. That guy… Always so patient and kind. I could learn a few things from him.

He suggested eloping right there at the festival. I must admit I had a tiny tantrum. I wanted to wear a white dress, throw a smashing party, and invite all our friends. I wanted Emmy to see her parents make an official commitment before the Watcher. But Winston is always logical, never emotional, and said a wedding is for the guests. Why waste money on giving them fuzzy feelings when we already have a whole life together? The marriage is between the two of us. No need to show others what we already had. I suppose he had a point. Besides, I didn’t need my friends fake smiling and hating on us at my wedding, anyway. So, we made our way to the arch and made promises to each other.

The whole night was a blur, and I couldn’t believe any of it happened. I closed my eyes and let his words envelope me. He promised to always have my back, support me any way I needed, and take care of me and Emmy.

I promised to love him forever, be more patient, listen more, be his #1 fan, and care for him for the rest of his days. The tips of my ears felt frozen solid, so I went in for what felt like would be a very hungry kiss, but when his lips touched mine, I was no longer cold and wanted the moment to last forever.
